Romance Novels Are Love Letters to Men
You know what writing romance has helped me with? In this dark age we’re entering where the bad guys get free speech, and the masses are gaslit? It helps me to write good guys. Not just one hero in a sea of evil, but a community of them. A chance to write about them as if it’s a casual expectation and not a mythical fantasy.
My stories are about creating an escape from reality. I appreciate dark romance for its exploration of angst, but I equally value stories that provide comic entertainment and celebrate the good guys.
Romance allows me to reflect on the flaws in people as healing journeys and not always a sinister sign of a mental pathology. It highlights men’s potential for love and to be good men. Possibly, this is the source of the complaint - that romance places unfair expectations on men? Because some don’t want to do better? But in our books, we can dream…
Take an abusive, violent criminal or serial unaliver. The high frequency of women meeting these men has prompted public forums such as “Men vs Bear”. It’s so prevalent that we must raise our daughters to always beware from the time they enter elementary school. Characters in romantic stories frequently resolve aggression towards the female main character by discovering her humanity. He learns her value and cherishes her. While he also heals by her love and respect. Wouldn’t that be a perfect world if that happened large scale?
These stories illustrate many other heartbreaks in life, like unrequited love, limerence, mental health and addiction barriers, childhood traumas, and help readers feel heard. Writing human flaws as an opportunity for growth and not necessarily a tragedy or nihilistic musings is often the goal of authors. They proclaim our enduring hope, our desire for a future alongside men. We just want it to be mutually beneficial. Why is that so hard to hear? They also provide the bonus of endorphins. And guess what? That benefits our partners. So, enjoy.
Spicy Tales from Grace range from pure erotica to romance. All of them showcasing the empowerment of women and sisterhood. These narratives, set within Canada, feature diverse characters, much like our country. And you can trust the men in these stories. I know they’re out there, so let’s shine a light on them. I might write a dark romance in the future, but not yet. Despite some characters’ painful pasts, their relationships will largely avoid toxic dynamics.
Whiskey Blues is ready, but I am creating an audio file to go with it. Currently, I'm looking for ARC readers so join my email list and fill the google form to get a digital copy (with conditions).
